Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programs begin with simple
techniques to help focus and calm the mind and relax the body.
In a framework of gentleness and acceptance, we'll progress
from basic breathing exercises to body awareness, meditations,
easy yoga and qigong, creative exercises and group discussions.
You'll get plenty of guidance in a caring and supportive atmosphere through class discussions, individual instruction and home practices, including guided meditation tapes and/or CDs. These courses are based on the highly effective program of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. In numerous studies meditation and relaxation have been shown to reduce pain and physical problems and to have a beneficial impact on stress management and life skills. Mindfulness-based stress reduction has been shown to help relieve symptoms and reduce pain in conditions such as: * Asthma, Diabetes * High Blood Pressure * Fatigue, Headaches * Cancer * Anxiety, Depression * Chronic Pain and Illness * Immune Disorders * Sleep Disorders * Trauma, Injury Over two decades of studies have shown that people practicing mindfulness have: * decreased physical and psychological symptoms * increased abilities to relax * decreased levels of pain * increased coping skills
